Beginning with technical photographic skills and building to videography, students discover how these skills are foundational and transferable to other media arts applications. Students explore the fundamentals of using the camera, the processes, the images, and everything that goes into making the best possible photographic artwork. Students create images and videos, exploring meaning and representation. ASSESSMENT: Students demonstrate their learning through a photography portfolio, group filmmaking task, and reflection on their own and others’ creative works. MEDIA ARTS MUSIC LEARNING AREA: The Arts LENGTH: Term SELECTION: Compulsory LEARNING SUMMARY: Students build a strong foundation in music by learning the basics of music theory and developing practical skills. They explore note names, note lengths, pitch in both treble and bass clefs, rhythm notation, and simple time signatures. Students are introduced to music composition using digital technology and begin creating their own pieces. They also gain hands-on experience with rhythm section instruments, such as keyboard, bass, guitar, or drums. This course helps students develop musical confidence, creativity, and an understanding of how music is structured and performed, preparing them for more advanced music studies in the future. Students consider ethical and cultural perspectives in science, identify patterns and errors, and clearly communicate their findings using appropriate scientific language and formats.
