HAPPY STUDENTS LEARN WELL
The College motto, With One Heart, is the translation of Archbishop Gleeson’s motto ‘Cor Unum’. In our Patron’s first letter to the College, he said “I leave with you this hope of mine: that Gleeson College will always be of ‘One Heart’ in every aspect of its life and mission.” Our community is therefore founded on the commitment of Archbishop James Gleeson to the charism of the heart and our desire to learn, grow and share ‘With One Heart’. At Gleeson College, we believe in the growth of each individual student and that ‘Happy Students Learn Well’, hence, this sits in the middle of the framework surrounded by the four pillars, Identity, Engagement, Connection & Agency. The aim of the framework is to support all members of our community by fulfilling the Vision and Mission of the College through our ten core values known as the Gleeson 10. The framework supports all students in embracing the Gleeson 10 values through the HEART of Teaching and Learning and HEART of Pastoral Care. Fostering a restorative ethos through walking together to cultivate, repair and maintain relationships to develop empathetic, thoughtful, self-aware and creative students. Gleeson College’s many pastoral care programs and initiatives include Year Level camps, retreats, and activity days, counselling services, mentoring programs, community awareness days, and extra curricular activities in The Arts, Sports and STEM. The house system, comprising of a vertical pastoral care structure, and the Faith & Living subject, a religious education and pastoral care program, form the basis of Gleeson College’s Student Wellbeing. Ultimately, we aim to produce young people of One Heart – who are deeply connected, thriving individuals, competent and capable learners, just, merciful, and humble leaders for the world God desires.
